AIFF Challenges High Court Decision And Moves To Supreme Court

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has approached the Supreme Court challenging a decision of the Delhi High Court to cancel the results of elections held in December last year.

The apex court will hear the matter on Friday. A bench headed by Justice J. Chelameswar and Abdul Nazeer on Wednesday directed the listing of the matter to November 10 after AIFF counsel Amit Anand Tiwari sought an early hearing. In its plea to the Supreme Court, the Federation cited that the country would lose an opportunity to host the FIFA U20 World Cup. India is set to bid for the tournament following the successful hosting of FIFA U17 World Cup.

The Delhi High Court on October 31, set aside the election of Patel, holding it arbitrary, and appointed former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi as the AIFF administrator. The High Court told Quraishi to hold fresh elections within five months.
