East Bengal  roped in goalkeeper Arup Debnath, youngster Uttam Rai and Godwin Franco, who were not picked in the draft by any of the franchise. They were on short of a goalkeeper and Arup Debnath could be a good replacement for the Red and Gold brigade. The East Bengal side had struggled in their goalkeeping position in the last few seasons and they are circumspect in choosing footballers in that position this season.

Uttam Rai had been highly rated in Indian football and rated as one of the best young talents in Dempo. But in the last few seasons he has been troubled by a lot of injuries. It is to see how he performs in his new stint at East Bengal.
