The All India Football Federation (AIFF) launched the fixture for the 35th edition of the Federation Cup. The tournament will kick-off simultaneously in Cochin and Manjeri on January 14, 2014. Sixteen Teams to fight out for the top most crown of Indian football. Teams are divided into four Groups with the Group winners making it to the semifinals.
All thirteen I-League teams had been included along with United Sikkim, Bhowanipore FC and Eagles FC.
Eagles FC is added later by AIFF following the withdrawl of Langsing FC from the tournament. Eagles FC is chosen as they have completed the license criteria and it can grab some local eye-balls.
United Sikkim replaced Mumbai Tigers, the club that withdrew from the I-League 2013-14, on the other hand Bhowanipore FC was included on account of their position in the Second division of the I-League.
United Sikkim and Bhowanipore FC are placed in Group D while Eagles FC is placed in Groups A.
The AIFF also launched a reworked, vigourous new Federation Cup logo with the coined phrase “Where Pride meets Passion”.
The Group’s for the tournament are as follows:
Group A – Churchill Brothers, United Sports Club, Pune FC, Eagles FC
Group B – Sporting Clube de Goa, East Bengal Club, Bengaluru FC, Rangdajied United
Group C – Salgaocar FC, Mohun Bagan, Mumbai FC, Shillong Lajong
Group D – Dempo SC, Mohammedan Sporting United Sikkim, Bhowanipore
The venues are as follows:
Group A and Group C: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Cochin
Group B and Group D: MDS Complex, Manjeri
Semifinals and Final: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Cochin
