The much awaited Shillong derby ended in 1-1 draw. As Rangdajied United is playing their first I-League this year, it becomes the second team from Meghalaya after Shillong Lajong to play I-Leaggue.
Santosh Kashyap, Rangdajied United coach, relied heavily on experience as he fielded players like Subrata Paul, Gourmangi Singh, Manandeep Singh, Tomba Singh in his starting eleven. And his tactics soon reflected on pitch as Rangdajied United enjoyed possession.
Rangdajied United opened the score sheet with a nicely placed header from defender, Iwasaki form Ho Jun Shin’s corner. Minutes later Lajong opened continuous attack on Rangdajied and missed couple of chances to equalize.
Second half began the way first half ended. Subrata Paul became Lajong’s only hindrance to find the equalizer.
Meanwhile Manandeep also missed a golden opportunity to increase the lead. Soon after in 74th minute Thomas Saikhom allowed Haokip’s cross to sneak into the net. Lajong came close to break the dead lock as Uilliams’ shot was denied by the wood work and either side had to settle with a 1-1 draw.
